Happy Birthday Composition of Sound

Am 04.03.1980 wurde der Grundstein für eine der größten Bands unserer Zeit gelegt. Mit Composition of sound gründeten Andrew Fletcher, Vincent Clark und Martin Lee Gore eine neue Band. Mit billigen Synthesizern wollten die drei Schulfreunde den Traum von Rockstars leben. Zunächst mit instrumentalen, elektronischen Songs im Gepäck wurden auch schon erste Auftritte des Trios zu einem Geheimtipp in ihrer Heimat Basildon/ Essex in England. Mit Songs wie “Television Set”, “I like it” und “Radio news” machten die drei von sich reden. Am Mikrofon war zunächst Vince Clarke zu hören, der auch alle Songs der Band bis dato schrieb.

Kurze Zeit später lernten die drei den Stadtbekannten Punker David Gahan kennen, der sich zwar sehr für Kunst interessierte, aber Hin und Wieder das Ein oder Andere Auto klaute. Daves Stimme und Aussehen passte perfekt zum engagierten Trio, das fortan ein Quartett darstellte.

Da der Name der Band viel zu lang war und Dave Gahan gern Mode-Zeitschriften durchblätterte adaptierte man den Namen eines französischen Mode Magazins “Depeche Mode” fortan zum neuen Bandnamen. Der Rest ist Geschichte.

Auf ihrer ersten Tournee, die fast ein Jahr lang andauerte und in einer Schule begann und in kleinen Clubs endete spielten Depeche Mode folgende Tracks:
